The Columbus Housing Partnership is committed to pursuing environmentally sustainable design in our affordable housing communities. For this reason, CHP applied for and received green certification for the Enclave from Enterprise Green Communities, the national leader in environmental sustainability advocacy for affordable housing.
To receive Green certification, the Enclave met a wide-ranging set of environmental standards. |
About Green Communities
Green Communities (www.greencommunitiesonline.org) provides funds and expertise to enable developers to build and rehabilitate homes that are healthier, more energy efficient and better for the environment - without compromising affordability. Green Communities homes are built according to the Green Communities Criteria, the first national framework for healthy, efficient, environmentally smart affordable homes.
To receive certification from Enterprise, the Green Communities Criteria were met in a number of categories, including:
- Site, Location and Neighborhood Fabric – preservation of ecologically delicate areas and promotion of “smart growth” principles, such as building within established communities and near transportation options. Density Map [PDF]
- Site Improvements – erosion control, storm water management, and other environmental remediation.
- Water Conservation – the use of water conserving appliances and fixtures.
- Energy Efficiency – the use of energy star appliances and efficient lighting, such as daylight sensor lighting.
- Materials Beneficial to the Environment – construction waste management, use of recycled materials in construction, and high reflectivity roofing materials.
- Healthy Living Environment – low VOC paints and primers, kitchen and bathroom exhaust fans, and green label certified floor coverings.
These criteria and more have been met by The Enclave. The result is a residential community constructed to be as healthy as possible for both residents and the environment. |
